Whether you’re taking your engagement photos or getting married during this time of year, fall is an incredibly romantic time to celebrate love.
We have supported many Joy couples throughout varied seasons and fall tops our list for some of our favorite weddings to help support.
According to BusinessWire, a whopping 77% of 2022 weddings are taking place in summer and fall. And last year, October took the top spot as the most popular month for weddings. If you’re planning your nuptials for next year, here are unique fall wedding details that you don’t want to miss.
From moody color palettes to cozy details, it’s fairly easy to incorporate elements of this transitional season throughout your wedding décor. Here are three cornerstones of the fall season and some ideas for how you might be able to execute on your dream wedding using pumpkins, leaves, and warmth.
Creative Fall Wedding Decor Using Pumpkins
Pumpkins are representative of this beautiful season and typically don’t cost a lot of money. There are plenty of ways that you can incorporate pumpkins into your unique fall wedding details.
Why pumpkins? Not only do they scream “fall”, but they add a unique depth and warmth to the big day. They will serve as an extra dimension to your décor and add a pop of color (or can be painted/written on to lean into your theme.)
Have your wedding party carve pumpkins as part of a pre-wedding event and then feature them throughout the reception space. Not only will these add to the sentiment of your decorations, but you’ll make great memories in the creation process.
Use pumpkins as a border which outlines the aisle at your ceremony. If you think the color will be distracting, they can be painted white and customized with words (like religious text) written on them.
Incorporate pumpkin flavors, like a pumpkin spiced martini or pumpkin pie throughout your big day.
Use pumpkins as centerpieces during the wedding reception.
Incorporate pumpkins into your wedding favors. We love the idea of sachets of pumpkin spiced tea bags, or pumpkin scented soaps!

Unique Fall Wedding Details Featuring Leaves
When you think of fall, it’s likely that you’ll begin to envision multicolored leaves. Elevate your wedding with the sentiment of "falling in love” and include leaves throughout your wedding details.
Add leaves or another fall foliage to your bouquet or boutonnieres.
Line the ceremony aisle with a colorful array of fall leaves. To align with your theme, you can add them to pretty baskets or as part of floral arrangements placed at the end of each row.
Stand under an arch adorned with leaves to add color and dimension to your ceremony photos.
Use dried leaves as part of your wedding centerpieces.
Tie in the theme “Falling in love” to your guest book, the name of your specialty cocktail, or unique fall wedding favors.
Pro tip: if you live somewhere like Florida and are surrounded by palm trees instead, you can always use silk leaves as alternatives!
Cozy Fall Wedding Ideas to Keep Your Guests Warm
If one of the words that you’d like to use to describe your wedding is “cozy,” here are some elements to add warmth throughout the experience.
Include fall-inspired patterns and textures throughout your material choices. This could include warm velvet bridesmaids’ dresses, buffalo check tablecloths, or flannel table runners.
Don’t forget the blankets! If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, feature lush baskets near the entrance filled with optional blankets for your guests to cuddle up with. Make sure they match your wedding colors, or opt for neutral so that they can be used in your future home together.
Serve warm food and drink options throughout the big day. And don’t be afraid to get creative! Warm up your guests with a custom coffee station, baked potato or grits bar, and an array of fall-inspired pie flavors as the cake alternative or grooms cake (did someone say apple or pecan pie?)
Use lights to help add to the mood and increase the temperature. If any part of your big day might leave your guests feeling chilly, incorporate heat lamps in key areas. You could also use fire pits or candles to add to the cozy, romantic vibes.
Speaking of fire pits…serve s’mores! If the size of your wedding guest list and wedding venue allows for this option, make fire pits available for s’mores as a late-night snack. This could also be a good alternative for cocktail hour. If that seems too complicate, one of our favorite unique fall wedding details is to give a pre-bundled s’mores package as part of the favors. Use the theme “s’more love”---your guests will get a kick out of it!
